Compared to WiDr human colon cancer cells that are highly glycolytic and resistant to lactate signaling (outward lactate gradient) (De Saedeleer et al., 2012), we first found that SiHa and HeLa are more oxidative than the human vein umbilical endothelial cells (HUVECs) that initially served to identify the lactate to NF-κB pathway (Vegran et al., 2011) (Figure 1A). The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is malignant colon neoplasm.
