Genome-wide approaches performed on breast cancer cell lines clearly demonstrated that HMGA1 proteins influence the expression of migration- and stemness-related genes, as well as genes involved in cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and development (10, 12, 15), according to the well-established activities of HMGA1 in neoplastic transformation in general (6). The gene discussed is HMGA1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
