The ability of PGC‐1α to activate expression of mitochondrial genes is regulated in part by GSK3β (Anderson et al., 2008), a nutrient‐sensitive kinase strongly implicated in the etiology of Alzheimer's disease (Sereno et al., 2009; DaRocha‐Souto et al., 2012). The gene discussed is PPARGC1A; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
