In line with a protective role of mitophagy under stress conditions, very recently it was shown that the accumulation of p53 in tumor cells under hypoxia - by use p53 fused to the oxygen-dependent degradation domain of HIF1α - inhibited PARKIN-mediated mitophagy and thereby increased the radiosensitivity of these tumor cells [47]. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and neoplasm.
