Treatment with a PPARγ agonist has been reported to reduce COX-2 expression in human prostate cancer cells in vitro [38]; we have previously reported that both a specific COX-2 inhibitor (celecoxib) and several non-specific COX inhibitors (piroxicam, naproxen, NO-naproxen) are potent chemopreventive agents in the NQO/F344 rat oral carcinogenesis model [26]. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is prostate cancer.
