Currently, several small-molecule inhibitors targeting different proteins of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, especially a class of dual PI3K/mTOR inhibitors, which bind to and inactivate both PI3K and mTOR, have shown potent anticancer activity in prostate cancer in pre-clinical and clinic trials [25, 26] (Table 3). The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
