Kremastinos et al. reported that plasma levels of BNP and NT-pro-BNP are increased in major thalassemia patients and when left ventricular dysfunction is developed the predictive value of NT-pro-BNP is better than BNP for diagnosis of latent left ventricular diastolic dysfunction that is also increased by age [15, 16]. The gene discussed is NPPB; the disease is thalassemia.
