The association between high RUNX2 expression, WNT pathway activation and WNT-induced squamous metaplasia in mouse models seems to be conserved in human disease where transcriptomic analysis on human metaplastic breast cancer (MBC) listed RUNX2 within the upregulated gene signature55 while WNT signalling was found to be activated in 95% of this disease type56. This evidence concerns the gene RUNX2 and breast cancer.
