Accordingly, we observed that the protein G6PD (approximately 62% conserved between humans and flies), whose malaria resistance-deficient version is observed in regions where this disease is endemic [19], ranked very high in variability in humans (in nucleotides or amino acids, rank #23 and #31, respectively) but not in Drosophila (orthologous gene FBgn0004057, a.k.a. Zw, in nucleotides or amino acids, rank #1539 and #2261, respectively). Here, G6PD is linked to malaria.
