ESR1 and Alzheimer disease: This study, aimed at evaluating the effect of estrogens on the resolution of inflammation, indeed showed that the activation of the intracellular estrogen receptor shortened the pro-inflammatory phase and influenced the extrinsic and intrinsic programs leading to the resolution of the inflammatory phase, favoring the progression of macrophages toward the IL10-dependent AD phase, which is responsible for immunomodulation and tissue remodeling.
