This recently demonstrated usefulness of Bcl-2 inhibitors in basal-like breast cancers expressing Bcl-2, together with our present finding that Bcl-2 positivity is correlated with poor clinical outcome in patients with hormone receptor-negative or triple-negative tumors, suggest that Bcl-2-targeted therapy may improve the poor clinical outcome of patients with such tumors expressing Bcl-2. The gene discussed is BCL2; the disease is breast cancer.
