IL6 and bacterial vaginosis: Data on vaginal IL-6 in the literature have shown that there is an association between increased levels of this cytokine in situations of aerobic vaginitis, but not of bacterial vaginosis.13, 24 However, it has already been demonstrated that IL-6 levels are higher in pregnant women with bacterial vaginosis than in non-pregnant women with bacterial vaginosis.16 Recently, Balkus et al.10 failed to demonstrate any independent association between increased vaginal IL-6 levels and either pregnancy or bacterial vaginosis.
