Although CD4+ T cells largely express TH1 cytokines, interestingly, following stimulation, only 80% and 40% of CD4+ IL-4+ cells concurrently produce IFNγ and IL-2 respectively, thus demonstrating that activated BALF lymphocytes of sarcoidosis patients are capable of a complex, concurrent production of TH1 and TH2 cytokines [91].
