NDRG1 has an important role in cell proliferation and differentiation [24, 25] and a debated role in oncogenesis, as it mainly behaves like an oncosuppressos in several tumor models [26, 27], yet appears to be a key determinant of resistance towards alkylating chemotherapy in malignant gliomas [28] and is associated with aggressive tumor behavior in HCC [29], where NDRG1 suppression induces apoptosis [30]. Here, NDRG1 is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
