Considering that (i) activation of macrophages [48], dendritic cells [49] and microglial cells [50] is mediated in part by proinflammatory cytokine and TLR signaling pathways that can be negatively regulated by suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1), and (ii) that down-regulation of its expression increases production of proinflammatory cytokines and tissue damaging mediators contributing to the development of chronic inflammatory autoimmune diseases, including MS and EAE [48, 51], SOCS1 expression was also measeured.
