Treatment with aqueous extract of P. granatum (100 mg/kg, p.o.)markedly prevented sciatic nerve ligation-induced neuropathy and oxidative stress by changing the pain threshold, improving the functionality of sciatic nerve, decreasing serum and tissue thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and tissue superoxide dismutase (SOD), and increasing levels of serum glutathione and catalase. This evidence concerns the gene CAT and neuropathy.
