A clinical study on humans [37] tested the effects of 16-week supplementation with fucoxanthin in obese patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), providing a significant reduction of body weight, fat, and systolic/diastolic blood pressure, decreased levels of TG, C-reactive protein (CRP), and some enzymes such as glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (gamma-GT), and a significant increase in resting energy expenditure (REE) measured by indirect calorimetry. Here, GGTLC1 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
