EMT, a key process contributing to tumor metastasis, is portrayed by the loss of the epithelial marker E-cadherin and increase in EMT- inducing transcription factors.28 E-cadherin, a cell–cell adhesion molecule, is functionally necessary for epithelial integrity.29 In CRC, loss of E-cadherin is associated with the loss of tumor differentiation, increased lymph node and distant metastasis. This evidence concerns the gene CDH1 and colorectal carcinoma.
