Homozygote risk-allele carriers (AA) of the FTO single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs9939609 showed a 1.67-fold increased risk to develop obesity in comparison to non-risk-allele carriers (TT) [2] which could be reproduced for several FTO SNPs in different ethnic populations [4–6]. This evidence concerns the gene FTO and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
