Despite MITF high/NF-κB low melanoma showing sensitivity to MAPK inhibitors, the exact role of MITF in causing sensitivity to MAPK inhibitors is not clear as ectopic expression of MITF can also cause MAPK resistance [108,137] and NF-κB activity may be the main driver of resistance in melanoma naturally displaying the MITF low/NF-κB high phenotype [37]. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is melanoma.
