In pemphigus foliaceus, superficially occurring blisters are typically associated with autoantibodies to the Dsg1, whereas in the more severe pemphigus vulgaris (PV), which is characterized by deeper blisters in the suprabasal layer of the epidermis, IgG antibodies to both the Dsg1 and Dsg3 implicate in pathogenesis of the disease. Here, DSG1 is linked to pemphigus vulgaris.
