High mortality rate in the present study was attributed to advancing age (>60 years), late presentation (>48 h), systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), on admission, diabetes mellitus, extension of infection to the abdominal wall, Fournier’s gangrene severity score (FGSI) >9 and HIV infection with low CD4 count (<200 μl/cells). This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and gangrene.
