Fibrotic fibroblasts produce excessive collagen, and FL BARD1 and/or other isoforms could be involved in lung fibrosis due to their ubiquitin ligase function which could contribute to the accumulation of collagen via (de)regulation of collagen or other extra cellular matrix protein production and/or turnover, which remains to be investigated. This evidence concerns the gene BARD1 and pulmonary fibrosis.
