Metabolic syndrome has been associated with TNBC in several studies (Vargas-Hernandez et al. 2013; Davis and Kaklamani 2012; Maiti et al. 2010), and is hypothesized to increase risk of TNBC through the association with leptin and adiponectin levels that disrupt cell signaling pathways involved in cell cycle regulation, angiogenesis and cell proliferation (Davis and Kaklamani 2012). This evidence concerns the gene LEP and metabolic syndrome.
