Cytochrome P450 2C8 (CYP2C8), a polymorphic enzyme that mainly contributes to the hepatic metabolism of amodiaquine (AQ) and chloroquine (CQ), presents with several genetic variants (e.g., CYP2C8*2) that are associated with decreased CYP2C8 enzyme activity, which affects metabolism of CYP2C8 substrate drugs, thereby leading to variability in the removal of malaria causing parasites in the infected hosts [50]. Here, CYP2C8 is linked to malaria.
