Chemokine ligand 20 (CCL20) and its chemokine receptor CCR6 contribute to the formation and function of mucosal lymphoid tissues and are notably, in the context of the immune-mediated lymphocytic cholangitis characteristic of PBC, involved in the localization of Th17 cells and CD8 effector T cells to cholangiocytes and the periductal area in portal tracts16. Here, CCR6 is linked to primary biliary cholangitis.
