Downregulation of activity-dependent genes involved in synaptic plasticity and memory, including the activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein (Arc), c-fos and Bdnf, are associated with learning and memory deficits in AD and APP transgenic mice (Phillips et al., 1991; Dewachter et al., 2009; España et al., 2010b).
