Cheng et al. [31] demonstrated that TGF-β1 knockout with small interfering RNAs in liver stellate cells (HSC-T6) significantly decreased α-SMA and collagen I levels, as well as inflammatory cytokines IL-1 and TNF α levels, indicating that TGF-sequence-specific TGF-β1 gene silencing has potential therapeutic usefulness for the treatment of liver fibrosis.
