IL6 and squamous cell lung carcinoma: Because treatment of cells with H2O2 and BPDE creates oxidative damage and BPDE-DNA adducts that mimic the damage induced by radon and the tobacco carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene (Narayanan et al. 1997; Tellez et al. 2011), respectively, these findings further implicate the involvement of IL-6 in promoting the development of lung squamous cell carcinoma in uranium miners.
