EBV-infected mice exhibited hemophagocytosis in BM and liver, erythropenia, thrombocytopenia, expansion of activated CD8+ T cells and their infiltration into organs such as liver, and IFN-γ hypercytokinemia23, suggesting that our humanized mouse model has the potential to reproduce anemia caused by virus infection. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is anemia (phenotype).
