Thabet et al. [41] reported that global DNA methylation was reduced in salivary gland epithelial cells (SGECs) from SS patients, which was associated with a 7-fold decrease in the expression of the gene DNMT1, which encodes the DNA methyltransferase 1, and a 2-fold increase in the expression of the gene Gadd45a, which encodes the growth arrest and DNA-damage-inducible protein GADD45 alpha (GADD45α). Here, DNMT1 is linked to synovial sarcoma.
