In our patients with intracardiac thrombosis, clear visualization of the thrombi by intraoperative TEE prompted either intentionally sustained coagulopathy or rapid administration of heparin or tissue plasminogen activator to promote thrombolysis and decrease the risk of the clot propagation into the pulmonary vasculature (Lerner et al. 2005). The gene discussed is PLAT; the disease is blood coagulation disease.
