Atherosclerosis, precursor to cardiovascular diseases, is recognised as a chronic inflammatory disease of large arteries, involving cytokines, such as IFN-γ and TNF-α, adhesion molecules, such as ICAM-1 and VCAM-1, and several plasma inflammatory markers, such as hsCRP, IL-6, and fibrinogen [2, 3]. This evidence concerns the gene VCAM1 and cardiovascular disorder.
