It has been observed that in patients with periodontitis and T2DM, effective glycemic control may improve bleeding on probe lesions by improving the inflammation at gingival sites of periodontal tissues [20], while the treatment of periodontitis with topical antibiotics may ameliorate the periodontal status and glycemic control with an elevation of serum adiponectin and reduced HbA1c [21]. This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and periodontitis.
