GHRL and schizophrenia: Given the dopamine modulatory effects of ghrelin/GHSR-1A signaling combined with the neuroanatomical overlap found between the central expression of the GHSR-1A and areas recognized to be involved in sensorimotor gating (Guan et al. 1997; Swerdlow et al. 2001), prompted us to investigate the involvement of GHS-R1A and ghrelin signaling on NMDA receptor-mediated deficits in prepulse inhibition, a model of schizophrenia, in rodents.
