Excess adipose tissue produces and secretes multiple adipokines including leptin, adiponectin, resistin, visfatin; and in addition pro-inflammatory peptides, tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), interleukin (IL) 6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP) 1, which are also released by invading macrophages commonly associated with obesity [4,5]. Here, TNF is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
