From the genes identified in the pathway of regulation of insulin secretion by acetylcholine and FFA, GNAQ, a Gq protein encoding gene, is a known candidate gene of PCOS that mediates the insulin induced translocation of GLUT4 in adipocytes and is associated with insulin resistance and obesity in PCOS [41]. This evidence concerns the gene GNAQ and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
