G6PD and malaria: G6PDd testing is currently laboratory-based in Cambodia but the wider availability of a promising and robust point-of-care rapid diagnostic test (RDT) [31] capable of detecting patients with G6PD enzyme activities <30 % (<3.6 U/gHb) of the Cambodian median (i.e. those at the lower end of the G6PD activity spectrum) would open up the option of G6PDd testing by village malaria workers (VMWs), referring RDT-diagnosed G6PDd patients for medical supervision and treating the other patients in the community.
