The involvement of these alpha5 subunits containing GABAA receptors in a learning task was indicated by an enhanced memory performance of alpha5-null mutant mice (Collinson et al., 2002; Martin et al., 2010) and by memory impairments due to an increase in alpha5 GABAA receptor function (Zurek et al., 2014).
