Two chemokine receptors, chemokine (C–C motif) receptor 5 (CCR5) and chemokine (C–X–C motif) receptor 4 (CXCR4), are the major coreceptors for macrophage-cell-tropic (M-tropic or R5-tropic) and T-cell-tropic (T tropic or X4-tropic) HIV-1 infection, respectively [1]. Here, CCR5 is linked to HIV-1 infection.
