In patients with NHL, elevated levels of CD14+ HLA-DRlo/neg monocytes were associated with more aggressive disease and suppressed immune functions via multiple mechanisms including altering STAT signaling, increasing IDO, arginase, iNOS, NOX2 and VEGF expression, preventing DC maturation, altering co-stimulatory and cytokine expression and decreasing antigen uptake as summarized in a recent review by Laborde et al. [34]. The gene discussed is CYBB; the disease is non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
