The presence of the ADH1B*2 allele and ALDH2*1/*1 genotype has been shown to be positively associated with the severity of alcoholic liver disease in Japanese alcoholic men [6], and the pro-steatosis effects of the ADH1B*2 allele and ALDH2*1/*1 genotype on fatty acid metabolism may increase susceptibility to alcoholic liver disease. This evidence concerns the gene ADH1B and alcoholic liver diseases.
