Since the discovery of gain-of-function mutations in the KIT and PDGFRA genes and clinical application of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), such as imatinib, our understanding of the molecular and clinical features of GISTs has increased substantially, and the diagnosis and treatment of GIST have rapidly and dramatically changed [1, 2].
