Surprisingly, p21 and p27 have been shown to interact with Ras homolog gene family member A (RhoA) and rho-associated, coiled-coil-containing protein kinase 1 (ROCK1) in the cytoplasm and to accelerate cancer cell invasion and metastasis, suggesting a role for these proteins that opposes the typical role of tumor suppressors in the nucleus [7]. The gene discussed is ROCK1; the disease is cancer.
