We hypothesize that the upregulated expression of fibronectin and fibrin–fibronectin complexes in the ECM of high-risk and metastatic breast cancers can be used as a biomarker to facilitate the detection of small high-risk breast cancer and micrometastases, using the CREKA-targeted contrast agent for non-invasive high-resolution molecular MRI (Fig. 1). This evidence concerns the gene FN1 and breast cancer.
