Some of the mutated genes we have observed have been seen in other tumor types, including in genes more commonly associated with tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and endometrium, such as RNF43, ELF3, ARID1A and GNAS. Comparing MOTs to mucinous-type tumors from other organ sites reveals some genetic similarities, but also some striking differences (Additional file 2: Figure S3). Here, RNF43 is linked to neoplasm.
