By 1997 WHO dengue severity classification, the median CRP level was significantly higher for DSS versus DF (124.5 mg/L versus 13.8 mg/L; P < 0.001); DSS versus nonshock DHF (124.5 mg/L versus 15.8 mg/L; P = 0.008); DSS versus DF/nonshock DHF (124.5 mg/L versus 21 mg/L; P = 0.001) in the febrile phase; and nonshock DHF versus DF (9.9 mg/L versus 6 mg/L; P = 0.016) in the critical phase (Table 4).
