Multiple research studies have compared procalcitonin to C-reactive protein, cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10), and lactate, and all of these studies (except one, ref. [17]) have found that procalcitonin was much more sensitive and specific in accurately diagnosing sepsis, and the resolution of sepsis, than any of the other markers [1, 2, 7–9, 12, 18, 19]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and Sepsis.
