Interestingly, the lower PON1 paraoxonase activity in the ACS patients was inversely correlated with the number of concomitant CVD risk factors (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and family history of CVD (r = 0.57, p<0.0001) (Fig 3). The gene discussed is PON1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
