CD14 and lymphoma: We have previously reported that monocytes from peripheral blood of B-cell NHL patients exhibit an immunosuppressive phenotype and lymphoma patients have increased numbers of CD14+HLA-DRlow/− cells that inhibit host antitumor immunity.14 In addition, this subpopulation of monocytes is clinically relevant as increased numbers of CD14+HLA-DRlow/− monocytes correlate with advanced stage of disease.14, 15 These results suggest that the CD14+HLA-DRlow/− population has an important role in monocyte-mediated systemic suppression in B-cell NHL.
