CD14 and neoplasm: Accumulating evidence shows that the presence of tumor-derived monocytes/macrophages not only suppresses tumor immunity but also supports lymphoma cell growth thereby resulting in a poor outcome in patents with B-cell NHL.9, 26 It has been shown that a subset of CD14+HLA-DRlow/− cells have a crucial role in immune suppression mediated by tumor-derived monocytes in B-cell NHL;14 however, the underlying mechanism by which this subset of monocytes is expanded in lymphoma patients is unknown.
